General
FoxRide is a smart bike computer for your iPhone. The app offers custom dashboards, sensor integration (power meter, Di2), GPX navigation, Apple Watch connectivity and much more – all seamlessly integrated into the Apple ecosystem. Basic features are free, advanced features are available as modules or Pro subscription.
Yes, basic features are permanently free. This includes GPS tracking, workout recording, speed, elevation and Apple Health sync. Advanced features like custom dashboards, sensor connectivity, route navigation and the Bike Garage are available as individual modules or in the Pro subscription.
No, FoxRide is exclusively developed for Apple devices. This decision enables deep integration with HealthKit, Apple Watch, widgets and the entire Apple ecosystem. The app is written in native Swift and uses all advantages of the Apple platform. An Android version is not currently planned.
FoxRide supports all iPhones with iOS 17 or newer. This includes iPhone XS and newer. For the best experience, we recommend an iPhone with GPS (all models except iPod touch) and an Apple Watch for heart rate transmission.
The app is optimized for portrait mode. This allows one-handed operation while riding and provides better readability of the dashboards. The dashboard grid is accordingly set up in an 8×4 format.
FoxRide is currently available in German and English. The app automatically uses your iPhone's language. Additional languages will be added based on user feedback.
With Ghost Mode you can race against your own past workouts. Select a saved workout as a "ghost" and ride the same route – FoxRide shows you the time difference and ghost position on the map in real-time (as a purple dashed line). Features: Real-time comparison (time, distance, speed), audio announcements on position changes, dashboard widgets for ghost metrics, auto-start when you approach the start point (25/50/100m radius configurable). Requires: Ghost Mode license or Pro.
Yes! FoxRide offers an optional Social System: Profile: Create a public or private profile with username and bio. Share: Share workouts and routes with the community (GPS data can be excluded). Follow: Follow other riders and see their activities in your feed. Interact: Like and comment on shared content. Medals: Your achievements are displayed on your profile. All social features are optional – you decide what to share.
The Bike Garage is your digital fleet manager in FoxRide. With it you can: Manage multiple bikes – set up road bike, gravel, MTB etc. separately. Track components – monitor chain, tires, cassette, brake pads with mileage. Maintenance reminders – automatic notifications when components should be replaced. Assign sensors – each bike gets its own sensors. Before a workout, select your bike and everything connects automatically. Requires: Pro or Bikes module.
With the Dashboard Editor you build your own cockpit: 1. Go to the dashboard in the app and tap "Edit". 2. Tap an empty cell in the 8×4 grid to add a widget. 3. Choose from 40+ widgets (speed, power, heart rate, map, music, Di2, elevation profile and many more). 4. Adjust size (1×1 to 4×4), color (14 options) and position via drag-and-drop. You can create multiple dashboards and switch between them during a ride by swiping or using D-Fly buttons. Requires: Pro or Dashboards module.
FoxRide offers 40+ widgets in various categories: Speed: Current, average, maximum. Power: Watts, W/kg, average, zones, L/R balance. Heart Rate: Current, average, zones. Cadence: Current, average. Navigation: Map, elevation profile, turn instructions, compass. Distance & Time: Total, lap, timer, clock. Shimano Di2: Gear position, battery level, gear ratio. Elevation: Current, ascent/descent, gradient %. Other: Calories, music control, Ghost Mode metrics, weather. Each widget can be colored in 14 colors and displayed in various sizes.
With the Dashboards module or Pro you can create unlimited dashboards. This way you can set up a separate layout for every riding style – e.g., a road bike dashboard with watts and zones, a gravel dashboard with navigation and elevation profile, and a training dashboard with heart rate and interval timer. During a ride, switch between dashboards by swiping left/right or using D-Fly buttons.
The Bike Garage automatically tracks the mileage of each component based on your workouts. How it works: 1. Create a bike and add components (chain, tires, cassette, brake pads, etc.). 2. Set a maintenance interval for each component (e.g., chain replacement every 5,000 km). 3. FoxRide shows a wear indicator for each component. 4. When the interval is reached, you receive a notification. After replacing a part, reset the counter. This way you never forget a chain replacement.
Yes! You can share your workouts as a Ghost via the community features. Other riders can load your ghost and race against your times – and vice versa. This creates virtual races on your favorite routes, even when you're not riding at the same time. Share a ghost via: Open workout → Share → "Share to Community". Requires: Ghost Mode license or Pro.
FoxRide rewards your activity with Experience Points (XP). You earn XP through workouts, shared content and community interaction. The more XP you collect, the higher your tier: Bronze (from 50 XP), Silver (from 100 XP), Gold (from 250 XP), Platinum (from 500 XP). Your tier is displayed on your profile. The system is purely optional and has no effect on features – it's a sign of your engagement in the community.
Sensors & Hardware
FoxRide supports the following Bluetooth sensors: Power Meter: All Bluetooth LE power meters (Standard Cycling Power Service). Tested with 4iiii Precision 3+. Forget sensor: Delete the sensor in FoxRide and pair it again. 6. Battery: Check the sensor's battery level. 7. Restart iPhone: A restart often solves Bluetooth issues.
No, FoxRide only supports Bluetooth LE (BLE) sensors. iPhones don't have a built-in ANT+ chip. Many modern sensors support both protocols – look for "Bluetooth" or "BLE" compatibility when purchasing. 4iiii power meters, Shimano Di2 and most current speed/cadence sensors are Bluetooth compatible.
Yes! With the Indoor Workout feature you can train on your indoor trainer – without GPS. FoxRide calculates speed and distance from: Cadence (from power meter or cadence sensor), Gear ratio (automatically from Di2 or entered manually), Wheel circumference (in bike settings). How it works: Go to Settings → Indoor Workout, select your bike, configure gearing, and start training. The map widget shows an "INDOOR" badge, and calculated values are marked with "~" (e.g., "~32.4 km/h"). Indoor workouts are exported to Apple Health with the correct workout type. Requires: Pro license.

Routes & Navigation
1. Export a route as a GPX file (e.g., from Komoot, Strava, RideWithGPS). 2. Open the GPX file on your iPhone (e.g., from Mail, Files app or Safari). 3. Choose "Open with FoxRide" or use the Share menu → FoxRide. 4. The route is imported and saved in your routes library. Alternatively: In FoxRide, go to Routes → + → Import GPX and select the file.
The GPX route itself is available offline – you'll see your position on the track and receive turn instructions. Map tiles are loaded from Apple Maps and require an internet connection unless cached. For tours in remote areas, we recommend loading the route beforehand with a good connection so the maps are cached.
Yes! Every workout can be converted to a route: 1. Open a completed workout. 2. Tap the share icon. 3. Select "Save as Route". The route contains all GPS points and the elevation profile. Perfect for rediscovering your favorite loop or sharing with others.
Yes! With FoxRide Pro you get full voice navigation like a car GPS. Announcements are made at: 500m, 200m, 100m and 50m before each turn, Off-route warning when you leave the path, Arrival at your destination. Voice guidance works with background music (audio ducks briefly) and can be configured in settings (volume, speech rate).
The elevation profile in the route preview shows: Total elevation (ascent/descent), Highest and lowest point, Visual representation of the route, Your current position during the ride. This way you can see at a glance what climbs lie ahead.
The FoxRide Route Planner (routes.foxride.app) is a free web tool for route planning. With it you can: Plan routes: Click on the map to set waypoints. Yes! FoxRide offers multiple alternative app icons: 7 different fox variants (various colors), multiple bike icons. Go to Settings → Appearance → App Icon to switch.
Data & Privacy
All user data is stored exclusively on our own FoxRide servers in Austria – no third-party cloud, no US servers. Data processing is subject to GDPR. Server communication occurs for: License validation, Cloud routes (when enabled), Social features (when you create a profile and share content) and Account management.
Your workout data, dashboards and settings are stored locally on your iPhone. Workouts and routes can optionally be synced via the cloud when you enable the corresponding features (e.g., Social Sharing, Cloud Sync). Without activation, your local training data only leaves your device when you explicitly export or share it.
FoxRide offers an integrated backup function: 1. Go to Settings → Backup & Restore. 2. Tap "Create Backup". 3. Choose what to back up (workouts, routes, settings, etc.). 4. The backup is created as an encrypted .foxride file. 5. Save the file to iCloud Drive, Files or share it. The backup is encrypted with AES-256 and can be restored on any iPhone.
Location: For GPS tracking and navigation (only while using). Bluetooth: For power meter, Di2 and other sensors. Health: For heart rate from Apple Watch and workout export. Yes, you have full control over your data: Workouts: Export as .foxride JSON file. Routes: Save as route or share. Apple Health: Export workout to Apple Health. Complete Backup: All data as an encrypted backup file.
No, never. FoxRide doesn't sell user data and doesn't share it with third parties. The app contains no tracking SDKs or analytics tools. Your training data belongs to you – it stays on your device and isn't used for marketing or analytics purposes.
Technical & Troubleshooting
FoxRide automatically filters GPS noise (movements under 5m are ignored). For best GPS accuracy: Make sure location services for FoxRide are set to "While Using". Avoid tunnels, dense forests or tall buildings at the start. Wait briefly after starting until the GPS signal is stable. Enable "Precise Location" in iPhone Settings for FoxRide. When using speed via sensor (power meter), speed measurement is independent of GPS.
FoxRide automatically filters unrealistic cadence values (over 350 RPM). If incorrect values still appear: Check the sensor's battery. Make sure the sensor is properly attached to the pedal/crank. Remove the sensor in FoxRide and pair it again. Test if the sensor works correctly with the manufacturer's app.
FoxRide calculates calories based on available data: With power meter: Most accurate calculation based on watt output. With heart rate: Calculation based on HR, age, weight and gender. Without sensors: Estimate based on speed and body weight. For accurate calorie values, we recommend a power meter and a complete user profile (Settings → Profile).
You can choose where FoxRide gets speed from: GPS: Standard method, works everywhere, slightly delayed. Sensor: From power meter or speed sensor, more precise and faster, requires correct wheel circumference setting. For indoor training or in tunnels, sensor speed is more reliable. For most outdoor rides, GPS is sufficient.
1. Force quit: Swipe the app from the app switcher and restart it. 2. Restart iPhone: A restart often solves stubborn problems. 3. Check for updates: Make sure you have the latest FoxRide version. 4. Check storage: Make sure enough free storage is available. 5. Contact support: Email [email protected] with a description of the problem. For crashes during a workout: FoxRide saves automatically – your data should be available after restart.
We welcome all feedback! You can reach us at: Email: [email protected]. In the app: Settings → Send Feedback. For bug reports, it helps us if you include: iPhone model and iOS version, FoxRide version, Steps to reproduce the problem, Screenshots if possible.
These Pro features automate workout recording: Auto-Start: Automatically starts recording when you reach 10 km/h. Handy if you forget to start manually. Auto-Pause: Automatically pauses at speed below 5 km/h (e.g., at traffic lights) and resumes when you ride again. Both features can be enabled in settings and thresholds can be adjusted.
FoxRide is optimized for battery efficiency. Tips for long rides: Reduce display brightness – the display is the biggest power consumer. Enable auto-lock – the display turns off when inactive, recording continues. Low Power Mode (iPhone) – can be enabled during workouts without affecting recording. Bluetooth sensors consume minimal power. Bring a power bank – recommended for rides over 4-5 hours.
